Pattern boxes are all created by byproducts of the geometric box bag. After reconstructing the bags, beautiful solid wood pieces that were left out. The challenge was that the pieces are too small for most industrial machines. Therefore, I tried to repurpose those pieces and consulted with the factory’s technicians. We then came up with the conclusion that we need to design objects, with sizes and shapes specifically made for those excess pieces, that can be fabricated with one CNC machine. I studied the machine’s limitation and the router bits available, and designed patterns and create 3D models. The boxes are cost and time efficient and taking use of wood that will otherwise be thrown away.
